This project is the continuation of an ongoing tradition between the assistants and students from the industrial design department at FHNW. These lamps were produced from soaked recycled newspaper and Marxist glue, which was then pressed into a mould and dried in an oven. Simplicity and ecological thinking were key elements in this project. Through the years new techniques and mixture ratios were developed and the amount of additives were reduced to such a level that the lamp shade virtually consisted of one ingredient: recycled newspaper.
This twist on the traditional recycling project displays the possibility of upgrading the conventional concrete-coloured lampshade with an interior made to surprise. The gold leaf covered inner surface provides a warm glow while still allowing little speckles of light though the lamp shade.
